Morning walk around Mount Hieizan (4K)

Mount Hieizan is a Temple Mountain in northeast Kyoto. Because of its location it was thought to protect the old capital against evil in ancient times. The monastery (Tendai sect) dates from 788 and quickly gained political influence and power. To quench the rising power of the Tendai sect it was destroyed by Oda Nobunaga in 1571, but rebuilt after and remains the headquarters to this day.
